Overview
When Tomb Raider was released around the end of 1996 it was viewed by many as one of the most influential games at the time. Tomb Raider helped to influence the production of 3d games and many types of gameplay ideas to the gaming world. Most notable of the original Tomb Raider was it's awe inspiring 3d worlds, amazing story told my animated movies, stunning graphics for it's time, and adding female heroes to games. The original Tomb Raider game has sold millions of copies worldwide and started a revolution in the gaming world.
Gameplay
The control of Lara in her world is a very simple method of running, walking, jumping, climbing, swimming, and shooting. The controls themselves are simple and easy to master.
Running is the standard way of moving through the gorgeous 3d worlds yet will not prevent Lara from running off ledges. Walking is used when the player wants to be cautious and will prevent Lara from falling off ledges, falling into water or down a cliff, and is used to have Lara maneuver through spikes. Jumping is helpful for negotiating pits, traps, or obstacles. Swimming is obviously used to swim while underwater and controls much like running. Shooting is also easily done for all the player needs to do is draw Laras dual pistols and she'll lock on for you. Climbing is often used as well and generally has Lara pulling up onto ledges.
Levels
Tomb Raider consists of 15 levels and is broken down into 4 main sections. The story is told through cutscenes and these typically occur during the break between the 4 sections.

Story
Lara is hired by Jacqueline Natla to find a piece of the Scion, a fabled aritfact hidden in the mountains of Peru. The story unfolds with Lara finding out Ms. Natla isn't as nice as it seems and is led to Greece, Egypt, and Atlantis in search of the Scion and it's massive power.
Characters
Lara Croft-The star of this game. With red hair, striking features, and an attitude to boot this woman is one of the greatest Video Game characters of all time.
Jacqueline Natla-Owner of Natla Technologies and the person who hires Lara to find the Scion. She ends up capturing Lara after she finds all 3 peices of the Scion and becomes a mutant nemesis whom Lara kills at the end of the game.
Larson-Natla's blonde henchman who follows Lara in search of the Scion. He first appears at the end of the Tomb of Qualopec and is killed by Lara at the end of the Egypt Levels.
Pierre du Pont-Another henchman by hire of Natla. He appears in the Colosseum level and is defeated in the Tomb of Tihocan Level.
Weapons
In Tomb Raider, Lara will carry 4 different weapons, most of them acquired early by secrets. Lara starts the game with her trademark dual pistols and later acquires the Shotgun, Magnums, and Uzis.
Secrets
Secrets consists of hidden areas that generally contain ammo, medi packs, or guns. A chime sounds when a secret is discovered.
